How we got here

Our Story

A love story, told by the two people least qualified to be objective about it. We added our names so you know exactly who to blame.

Natalya and Michael

The short version

A nervous video call, a piano used as a backdrop, one very intentional vision board, and two dogs who eventually agreed to share a room. Here is the longer version, in our own words.

MikeSeveral years single. Thousands of swipes. I was starting to think the algorithm had quietly given up on me.
NatalyaEleven years of dating. You slide into a routine. But that day I was just open, in a great mood, honestly felt like I was floating on air.
MikeI'll confess one thing publicly: the first time I saw her, my brain went, "well, she is way out of my league."
NatalyaHe insisted on a video call. No phone, no endless texting. So he sets up a tripod at his piano, with a nice piece of art behind him.
MikeTo hide the messy house. Strategic staging. I regret nothing.
NatalyaThe screen comes on and he goes, very smoothly, "Hello, Tasha."
MikeThat was the only name I had! It was the name on your profile! I wasn't being weird, I was being accurate.
NatalyaI'd told him first dates feel like a job interview. So Mike, being Mike, says: "Let's just pretend it is our one-year anniversary."
MikeAnd then I may have planned out our entire first year. Month by month. Before date number one.
NatalyaThirteen months, technically. He overshot.
MikeLook, if you had asked me two weeks in, the answer was already yes.
NatalyaFor me it wasn't a lightning bolt. It was wading into the ocean: a little at a time, and then you look up and you are already all in.
MikeYou would lean in a little, so I would lean in more, so you would lean in more.
NatalyaUntil we were both completely, hopelessly in.
MikeFull disclosure for the room: this is marriage number three for me.
NatalyaThird time is a charm.
MikeMy theme song has been "Looking for Love in Too Many Wrong Places." Slow learner. But every wrong turn was pointing me right here.
NatalyaWe were never going to just bump into each other at the Safeway. We had to go looking. And we found it.
MikeThen came the merger: two households, two families, and a couple of dogs who had Opinions.
NatalyaNow our two dogs sleep in the same room. If they can figure it out, anyone can.
MikeChristmas together was our third date, then she flew to Thailand for two weeks and left me homework: build a vision board.
NatalyaHe rose to the occasion. Mostly. There is hidden video of his cutting and pasting that strongly suggests he skipped kindergarten.
MikeMy scissor work is fine. Moving on.
NatalyaWe found a house in Alamo. He is doing the math; I am doing the heart. I just said, "This feels like home."
MikeAnd it wasn't only the house. The whole thing felt like home.
NatalyaYou are my home. Love and laughter, in that order.
MikeLife isn't easy. But somehow, between the two of us, everything is easy.
And here we are, nine months later, making it official. See you on October 9th.

Flying in

Oakland (OAK) is closest and easiest, about 25 minutes from the venue. SFO and San Jose are good alternatives. Sample nonstop fares we've seen: Seattle around $247, Chicago to Oakland around $371.

Most guests arrive Thursday, October 8 and leave Sunday the 11th. Flying from Seattle? Friday is a Huskies game night, so consider coming Thursday to dodge the crowds.

Getting around

A rental car is the simplest option. The venue is up a canyon road, so allow a few extra minutes.

The evening read

Our celebration runs about 5:30 to 9:30 PM. Expect it to start around 63 to 66°F and cool to roughly 55 to 58°F by the last dance. Every year in the data landed in that same range, so it's a safe bet.

Bring a wrap or light jacket for the back half of the evening. Patio heaters will be running too.

Based on Open-Meteo historical reanalysis for Lafayette, Oct 8 to 12, 2021 to 2025. We'll show a live forecast as the date gets close.
